Objective

Synthes offers talented and ambitious graduate surgeons worldwide the opportunity of attending a Synthes Observership. During a two-week Observership at a Synthes reference clinic, surgeons are acquainted with different aspects of osteosynthesis.

The aim of the Synthes Observership is to strengthen the experience and competence of both the surgeons and their employing hospital, university, or clinic by providing them with the opportunity to observe and learn about recent developments and exchange their knowledge. The main focus is training the observer.

The Synthes Observership does not include the performance of any professional services by the observer to the host clinic.

Reference clinics

Synthes offers a two-week Observership Program at host clinics in the fields of general traumatology, spinal surgery and cranio-maxillofacial surgery.

Clinics hosting observers are approved members of the Synthes Reference Clinic Group. The clinic is responsible for detailed planning and execution of the Observership.

Application

Applications are accepted throughout the year, but should be sent at least 6 months prior to the desired period of the Observership.

The selection process is based on neutral criteria such as education, practice and performance, and is handled by the Synthes Continuous Medical Education Department. The Observership Compliance Committee reviews and approves or declines applications for Observerships.

The approval of an Observership is based on the following criteria:

–  solid medical education

–  sufficient, prior experience with Synthes products

–  successful practice in a hospital, university or clinic

–  clear interests and expectations regarding the Observership

–  fluent in English
