We develop, produce and market instruments implants and biomaterials for the surgical fixation, correction and regeneration of the human skeleton and its soft tissue.
We are an innovative pioneer in the field of biomaterials such as resorbable implants and bone graft substitutes, and have become a leader in non-fusion technologies with our lumbar and cervical disc replacements.

Product Access and Repairs
We have a large stock of loan equipment that can be used if customers wish to evaluate new systems or just simply need them occasionally. Our Service Centre offers a fast repair and upgrade service for customers' own equipment.

Products in NZ since early 1970’s
Synthes implants – initially branded AO* and later Mathys – have been sold in New Zealand since the early 1970’s. In 2004, Synthes acquired Mathys’ Trauma, Spine and CMF portfolios in the AP region. Since then, Synthes has injected significant investment into its New Zealand operations, providing additional resources in the form of both staff and products.
Synthes and the AO*
Synthes and the AO Foundation cooperate in close partnership. In the surgical community, this non-profit, surgeon-guided organization is seen as a pioneer in terms of research, development, clinical investigation and education in the treatment of fractures and disorders of the locomotor system.
Via a subsidiary, the AO Foundation holds the licenses for all products with the brand name Synthes. As licensee, we develop, produce and market these products.
As a totally independent, medically guided body, the Technical Commission of the Foundation ensures that clinical studies are performed to prove the validity and quality of every new implant or instrument before it may be sold by Synthes.
Because of this rigorous scrutiny, testing and evaluation, surgeons throughout the world have great confidence in the quality, engineering and performance of our products.
* AO stands for “Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthese” (Association for the Study of Osteosynthesis).
