SWX Indices: Adjustments to composition of SMI®

At the recommendation of the Index Commission and in keeping with the SMI® Rules, the Management Committee of the SWX Swiss Exchange has decided that Synthes registered shares (US87162M4096) are to be newly added to the SMI®.
The criteria set forth in the Rules were fulfilled by all other issues currently included in the SMI® Index, hence no issues are to be deleted from the SMI®.
The adjustment to the SMI® basket shall take place on 1 October 2004, at which point the SMI® Index then contain a total of 27 issues.

No changes to the SPI® Small/Middle/Large allocations will take effect on 1 October 2004.
